We are pleased to announce the introduction of two Wilson loudspeakers in the new Studio Series, the Studio 7 floorstanding and Studio 3 bookshelf speakers.
The Studio loudspeakers mark the beginning of a new line of Wilson loudspeaker solutions. They are designed for hi-fi home stereo systems. The design and technology are derived from professional studio monitors. New to the Wilson brand, this approach ensures both natural and accurate sound reproduction, and the new design inspires confidence with its professional connotations.
Common to the Studio 7 floorstanders and Studio 3 bookshelf speakers is a 28 mm soft dome tweeter that sits deep within a large 5-inch fiberglass horn for even sound distribution. The driver is built on a powerful neodymium magnet. The whole creates an acoustic solution proven in the best studios, now made available to home users. The acoustic system also includes two 5-inch mid-bass drivers in the Studio 7 (and one in the Studio 3) embedded in a die-cast aluminum basket structure. Kevlar diaphragms with pronounced surface ribbing further enhancing the rigidity of the structure, work with large magnets weighing over 280g. Bass-reflex port with rounded outlet ends is located at the back of the cabinet in both cases.
Sleek and uniform in appearance, the cabinets of both speakers are constructed using thick MDF boards covered with high-quality vinyl with a Walnut or Smoked Oak grain.
In case of the floor-standing Studio 7, the cabinet can be mounted on large, conical aluminum spikes. Here, too, depending on the color version of the cabinet, for the Walnut finish there are permanently colored brass spikes, and for the Black finish there are silver spikes. The set of spikes is completed with flat pads protecting the floor from damage. The same color treatment applies to the aluminum Wilson logo emblem located below the drivers and line the bottom edge of the drivers in the Studio 7, and in the smaller speakers it is placed directly on one of the grilles at its bottom.
The Studio speakers use an unusual grille design. Instead of a single, large masking surface, the Studio 7 has three independent grilles covering the very outline of each of the three drivers.
They are magnetically attached to the outer rims of the baskets. The grilles perform the primary function of covering and dust control, but they are also a design element on their own, emphasizing the wood grain on the front of the speaker when in place. Color also depends on the finish of the cabinet – black acoustically transparent material for black speakers, and dark beige, falling into aged gold for walnut speakers. In addition, the small size of the grilles makes them easy to store when not in use, which usually with traditional designs can be troublesome for users.
At the rear of the enclosure, at the bottom, there is an aluminum panel with single cable terminals with gold-plated contact surfaces mounted straight ahead. Terminals with large, transparent nuts with polarity markings make it easy to attach both unterminated and pre-terminated banana or pitchfork type speaker cables.
The aluminum panel was anodized in black, giving a brushed metal effect, thus becoming an integral part of the speakers’ design. Already at first glance the whole column reassures the user about the high quality of materials used and manufacturer’s attention to detail.
The most important information regarding the identification of the speakers and their basic performance is printed in accordance with the color scheme of each of the two cabinet finishes. Care has been taken to ensure that both the materials used and the care in assembly merit the additional distinction of “Developed and Engineered in Denmark,” a clear indication of the Wilson brand’s collaboration with an experienced design bureau in a country that is home to a significant portion of the world’s recognized loudspeaker brands.
With their technical qualities and modern design, the Wilson Studio 7 loudspeakers are a very good choice for audio enthusiasts who want to experience their recordings in a way that is natural and intended by the producer and artist. The Studio 3 have similar aspirations to their larger brothers, giving you the option of using them in smaller rooms.
